CONFLICTS OBSERVATORY FOR PEACE IN AFRICA OF GREAT LAKES
The Conflicts Observatory for Peace in Africa's Great Lakes was founded in Nairobi in 1999. The OCPAGL is a philanthropic non-governmental organization. It is a neutral observer, alert, informed and acting mainly on the basis of moral principles of honesty and social justice. It is open to any effort by anybody as long as the effort is aimed at promoting peace and justice in Africa in general, and in the Interlacustrine Region of Africa if particular.
The objectives of the OCPAGL include:
1. Observe and focus on political decision-making processes,
2. Objectively analyze the data from the fields and account for the probable short and long term repercussions of such political decisions,
3. Inform the people and political leaders about any plausible or implicit danger,
4. Promote a culture of peace in the Great Lakes Region,
5. Promote inclusive politics as part of an education on democratic responsability,
6. Collaborate with other organizations working for justice, peace, and human rights, in order to maximize success,
7. Exchange information with social actors and provide them with the opportunities to voice their concerns.
The OCPAGL has representation in Nairobi (Kenya), Kampala (Uganda), Kigali (Rwanda), Mwanza (Tanzania), Bukavu, Goma, Kinshasa (The Democratic Republic of Congo), and Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Toledo (USA).
